This seminar explores how the chiropractor can utilize a population health framework to take a comprehensive history, identify risks and needs, and connect patients to vital community resources. Special attention will be paid to social determinants of health and Healthy People 2030 goals.

Hour 1: Population Health and Chiropractic Patient Care
Topic/category: Public Health, History Taking
Chiropractic in the 4 levels of prevention - primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. Review of the social determinants of health, with an emphasis on socioeconomic status. Walk-through of Healthy People 2030 website and relevance to chiropractors in clinical practice. Review of 2 types of ergonomics and occupations with high exposure to heavy metals. Walk-through of how to analyze local water and air contamination using trusted sources. Review common patient presentations of poor ergonomics and heavy metal toxicity.
Hour 2: Application in Clinical Practice

Utilizing intake forms to set tone for office culture and care expectations. Asking questions in history to ascertain the effects of social determinants of health on individual patient experience. Including opportunities for patients to opt-in to referrals to needed or desired community resources. Seeking and appraising community resources for accessibility, relevance to patient base, and potential for collaboration.
