Neurofunctional Development and Chronic Health Disorders: Evaluation and Management for Chiropractic Minds (Buerger, May 19-20)
Overview
This course will include an in depth study of Neurodevelopment and Sensory Processing Disorder: What it is, what it means, how to evaluate for it, and the chiropractic connection and correction. It will also cover how to evaluate primitive and postural reflexes, what they indicate and what sensory systems they represent. Specific exercise protocols to improve sensory-motor processing as well as reflex integration will be given and will cover all ages and ranges of functional deficit. Practice strategies to help achieve the optimum adjustment in those “hard to adjust” kiddos will give you the confidence and ability to change lives like never before. You will also learn how to assess a child’s “Band Width”, how it relates to autonomic dysregulation and how to help use it to educate parents, teachers and kiddos about how chiropractic can help them!
TONS of life changing information that you can implement on Monday morning!
Hours
Saturday, 9:00am - 6:00pm
Sunday, 8:00am - 12:00pm
Learning Objectives
By the end of the seminar, you will be better able to:
- evaluate children for proper neurodevelopment;
- help promote proper neurodevelopment; and
- help manage those with neurodevelopmental dysfunction.
Saturday 9:00-6:00
9:00 – 10:00
Current Health Trends in the United States: The underlying cause of dis-ease (lecture)
This hour will review and discuss the most common current neurodevelopmental and chronic health disorders chiropractors are seeing in their practices due to modern day stressors affecting nervous system development and function.
10:00-11:00
The neurophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders & chronic health disorders: The chiropractic connection (lecture)
The hour will cover the connection between subluxation, autonomic regulation and neurodevelopmental and chronic health disorders. It will also discuss preventive methods to consider.
11:00-12:00
The neuroimmune, neuroendocrine & neurogastric systems (lecture)
This hour will cover the neuroimmune & neuroendocrine systems and chiropractic management.
12:00-1:00
The neurosensory systems (lecture)
This hour will cover the neurobiology of sensory-motor development and the health implications related to poor neurosensory development
1:00-2:00 Lunch
2:00-3:00
Neurophysiology, Evaluation & Management of the Vestibular System (hands-on)
The vestibular system is the “CEO” of all sensory systems. This section will discuss the critical role of vestibular function in regards to immune function, cognition, mood disorders, scoliosis and more. Evaluation and management techniques to ensure proper vestibular function will also be discussed.
Attendees will team up and perform specific neurological testing procedures for vestibular function as well as specific rehabilitation exercises to address vestibular dysfunction.
3:00-4:00
Neurophysiology, Evaluation & Management of the Vestibular System- con’t (hands-on)
The vestibular system is the “CEO” of all sensory systems. The section will discuss the critical role of vestibular function in regards to immune function, cognition, mood disorders, scoliosis and more. Evaluation and management techniques to ensure proper vestibular function will also be discussed.
Attendees will team up and perform specific neurological testing procedures for vestibular function as well as specific rehabilitation exercises to address vestibular dysfunction.
4:00-5:00
Neurophysiology, Evaluation and management of the Proprioceptive System (hands-on)
This hour will focus on the function of the proprioceptive system with evaluation and management techniques to ensure proper development and function.
Attendees will team up and perform specific neurological testing procedures for proprioceptive function as well as specific rehabilitation exercises to address proprioceptive dysfunction.
5:00-6:00
Neurophysiology, Evaluation and management of the Visual System (hands-on)
This hour will focus on the function of the visual system with evaluation and management techniques to ensure proper development and function.
Attendees will team up and perform specific neurological testing procedures for the visual system as well as specific rehabilitation exercises to address visual dysfunction.
Sunday: 8:00-12:00
8:00-9:00
Primitive & Postural Reflexes: Evaluation (hands-on)
Poorly integrated primitive reflexes will lead to immature development of the sensory systems as well as immature development of higher functioning neurological structures. The development of postural reflexes take place when higher functioning neurological structures have developed properly. This hour will be hands-on assessment of primitive and postural reflexes.
9:00-10:00
Primitive & Postural Reflexes: Evaluation – continued (hands-on)
Poorly integrated primitive reflexes will lead to immature development of the sensory systems as well as immature development of higher functioning neurological structures. The development of postural reflexes take place when higher functioning neurological structures have developed properly. This hour will be hands-on assessment of primitive and postural reflexes.
10:00-11:00
Integration & Management of Primitive Reflexes (hands-on)
Specific movement patterns, maneuvers and exercises to integrate primitive reflexes will be demonstrated and practiced in this hands-on clinical hour.
Attendees will team up and perform specific integration maneuvers and exercises targeted at integration of primitive reflexes and promotion of postural reflexes.
11:00-12:00
Wrap Up & Case Management (lecture)
Clinical case management and treatment plans along with Q&A.

Dr. Buerger established a highly successful private family practice in Northern California from 1992 until 2009. In February of 2010, she brought her expertise to Southeastern Idaho with a clinic in Ammon, Idaho specializing in Neurodevelopmental Disorders and healthy pregnancies.
She is part of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association’s (ICPA) seminar program where she offers a course on Neurosensory Integration and Sensory Processing Disorder. Due to the large demand, she now offers advanced courses on the topic for the Doctor of Chiropractic interested in caring for children with neurodevelopmental disorders and has founded the Intersect4kids certification program for The Care and Management of Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
