Overview

In this 12-hour continuing education course, Dr. Dan Murphy teaches the biochemical, physiological, and neurological mechanisms that influence inflammation, pain, tissue degeneration, and musculoskeletal health. The course emphasizes cellular energy production, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, nutrition, and systemic inflammation, while integrating pain management theory and chiropractic relevance throughout. Participants gain an evidence-informed understanding of how lifestyle, nutritional, and physiological factors interact with chiropractic care to support neuromusculoskeletal function, wellness, and healthy aging.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how cellular energy production, oxidative stress, and inflammation contribute to pain, fibrosis, and musculoskeletal dysfunction.
  • Describe key biochemical and neurological mechanisms involved in pain perception and non-pharmacologic pain modulation relevant to chiropractic care.

  • Understand the recent suprasegmental pain inhibitory controls, its relationship to opiate drugs, and the science of chiropractic spinal adjusting as an effective, non-addicting alternative to the opiate crisis.

We will be in classroom 4154 for the Saturday/Sunday event.  Attendees can park in Lot D and follow the path along the pond to the lower level of the Educational Services Building.  

DAN MURPHY, DC, DABCO

Dr. Dan Murphy graduated magna cum laude from Western States Chiropractic College in 1978, and has more than 36 years of practice experience. He received his Diplomate in Chiropractic Orthopedics in 1986. Since 1982, Dr. Murphy has served as part-time undergraduate faculty at Life Chiropractic College West, where he is currently teaching classes to seniors in the Management of Spinal Disorders.

Life Chiropractic College West has received programmatic accreditation through the Council on Chiropractic Education and institutional/regional accreditation through WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
