Strategies for Health, Longevity, Wellness, and Function (Murphy, Oct 31-Nov 1, 2026 Hayward Campus)
Overview
In this 12-hour continuing education course, Dr. Dan Murphy teaches the biochemical, physiological, and neurological mechanisms that influence inflammation, pain, tissue degeneration, and musculoskeletal health. The course emphasizes cellular energy production, oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, nutrition, and systemic inflammation, while integrating pain management theory and chiropractic relevance throughout. Participants gain an evidence-informed understanding of how lifestyle, nutritional, and physiological factors interact with chiropractic care to support neuromusculoskeletal function, wellness, and healthy aging.
12 CE hours
Schedule
Saturday, October 31, 2026 8:00am - 5:00pm PST.
Sunday, November 1, 2026 8:00am - 12:00pm PST.
Bring your own lunch and snacks.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain how cellular energy production, oxidative stress, and inflammation contribute to pain, fibrosis, and musculoskeletal dysfunction.
- Describe key biochemical and neurological mechanisms involved in pain perception and non-pharmacologic pain modulation relevant to chiropractic care.
- Identify nutritional, metabolic, and lifestyle factors that influence systemic inflammation, tissue health, and neuromusculoskeletal function.
- Discuss the role of chiropractic care within broader physiological and wellness-based approaches to pain management and healthy aging.
8:00 am – 9:00 am:
Category – Basic Science
This session explores how cellular energy, oxidative stress, and protein metabolism contribute to inflammation, fibrosis, and musculoskeletal health, and how these processes relate to chiropractic subluxation and adjustment.
- Steps of cellular energy production: cytoplasm, Krebs cycle, and electron transport chain
- Relationships between energy production, oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis
- Integration of biochemical processes with chiropractic subluxation and adjustment outcomes
- Effects of glyphosate, glutathione, and amino acid analogue substitution on protein synthesis
- Impact of analogue substitution on glutathione, collagen, oxidative stress, inflammation, and musculoskeletal health
Category – Pain Management Theory
Discuss inflammation from the perspectives of evolutionary biology and anthropology, including the ‘Theory of Everything’ of innate health—its causes, measurement, and management.”
- Relate inflammation and tissue fibrosis to chiropractic interventions, including adjusting, exercise, and soft tissue work.
- Identify systemic contributors to chronic inflammation that affect local musculoskeletal conditions.
- Explain the biochemical basis of pain and innate mechanisms that modulate pain perception.
- Describe neurophysiological pain control, including the Gate Theory, suprasegmental inhibition, and chiropractic spinal adjusting as a non-addictive pain management strategy.
